Can someone recommend good Silver & Gold stock companies to invest in?
I want to move some of my retirement money into Silver and/or Gold company stock to hedge what is going on in the economy now. Can anyone recommend one or two companies that are not rip-offs?

- If you want true commodity exposure, buy etfs that replicate the asset, GLD is for gold, SLV is for silver. They track the cash market fairly well. tba
- There are several options open to you. ABX is one of the largest and most profitable gold producers. But it sure is not any bargain currently. NEM is another you might consider. It is about the same size as ABX but not so profitable. Both have revenues in the 5.5 billion range. A company with about 1/2 the revenue is GFI. South African mining company. You might wish to consider FCX. It does mine gold but gold is not its major source of revenue. Mostly copper. There is another option open to you. That is to invest in GLD, an index fund that tracks the price of gold. But you need to be aware that profits from this are taxed as collectables. There are also mutual funds that are gold and silver investors. One that I am aware of is CEF. 53% gold and 47% silver bullion.
- Even though the price of gold is going up, gold stocks are not a sure thing. Check out SA - going down, even though they are reporting a large find. I think this economy will be very messy for 2008. Good luck. Jack
- If you want to own silver to hold, try BullionDirect. You can purchase silver and gold in an IRA with Sterling Trust. See linked articles for more info.
- The world's largest silver mines is the stock symbol: SIL - current price: $11.80 at a new 52 week low today. Just went into full production in January.
